About Bob:
Welcome to the official website of Bob Simmons!
I started my money education at the age of 13 delivering the Long Island Press newspaper to 32 customers. I quickly learned that you had to work to make money. Then came McDonald’s (the 3rd in Suffolk County) no air-conditioning; you swallowed a few salt tablets if the temperature got near 100. I worked my way up to night manager.
I joined United States Trust Company of New York in 1964. I started out in Operations and within a few years moved to Trust Administration. I was dealing directly with clients. Computers were quickly being introduced to the business world. The company placed a standalone computer with a floppy disk on our floor for people to experiment with. It quickly captured my attention and I found I was coming in earlier and earlier just to fiddle around with the new machine. Within a few years I became the division’s computer liaison. The title of Trust Administrator changed to Family Wealth Manager. My customers then included the Secretary of State of the United States & New York State, the Ambassador to France, the head of the CIA and one of the wealthiest families in the world at that time, according to Forbes Magazine.
After retiring I worked full time for a number of years at Mercy Haven Inc. Prior to that I was on their board for 14 years as a Founding Director, Treasurer and Board Chair. I also spent a year as a consultant with Deutsche Bank. I’m currently involved with the Community Computer Connections Program and am the database manager for Friends of Connetquot.
